Sarasota Invitational Attracts Rowers from Around the Nation
February 6, 2014 Osprey, Fla.–Rowers from as far as Seattle, Washington will compete in the 5th annual Sarasota Invitational Regatta at Nathan Benderson Park, February 22 & 23, 2014. The two-day event features 61 sprint races for youth, masters, and adaptive rowers. This year’s regatta is estimated to draw over 1,000 individual competitors and over 700 race entries.
In addition to a team from Seattle, competition includes groups from eight states like New York, Texas, and Indiana along with rowing clubs throughout Florida.
Rowers will sprint side-by-side on Benderson Park’s world-class rowing course that features a one-of-a-kind wave attenuation system, which creates flat water for ideal racing conditions.
Races will begin at 8:00 a.m. Saturday for junior events and 9:00 a.m. Sunday for Masters and Adaptive events. Award ceremonies for the Champion of Lake, presented by Diamond Vault, will take place at 1 p.m. and at the end of day’s racing.
The regatta is free and open to the public. Parking on the regatta island costs $5.
The Sarasota Invitational is run by Sarasota County Rowing Club in conjunction with the Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center Association, SANCA, the nonprofit overseeing the day-to-day operations of Nathan Benderson Park.
